After the speeches last night at the Democratic National Convention, the pitches between the two parties are becoming clearer. The Republicans promoting fear if we continue along the same path and the Democrats promoting hope if we continue along the same path. This election is going to be a doozy and closely watched by nations around the world.
Continue as we are, or change what we are?
The Democrats maintain we are on the right path, the people are being taken care of, and that if we stay on this path we will reach the promised land. Let’s not be hasty, after all, it took Moses 40 years! The Republican stance is that the people are suffering and that major changes in direction must be made and a brand new path must be found if we are ever to reach an oasis.
So, what does this mean for the Democrats? That the policies of the last 8 years are working, and if we persist on this path, it will prove to be the right one. What will we find along this path? Minor changes in immigration policies; no change in our global relationships; no change in military plans. In other words, we must persevere. We can see the light on the horizon – all we have to do is wait for dawn.
The Republicans, on the other hand, are promoting drastic changes on the premise that we are wandering way off course and a new path must be followed in an entirely different direction or the American people will die of thirst in the desert.
Some of the issues are the deficit, immigration, wages, health care, overseas relationships, security, inclusiveness in the policies of other nations or breaking away and establishing our own path.
